On October 30, 2011 Frac Attack will be screened in Dimock, PA as part of the Zombies Occupy Dimock event organized by Don’t Expect Protection!

From their site:
Zombie walk in Dimock, Oct 30th! Drink “Dimock water”, see graveyard of dead counties and an exploding water well! Watch “Frack Attack” the movie and hear John Hanger promising to give Dimock a pipeline! And many more “FUN” things. Come as a zombie if you like, you will be in good company.

Over 180 folks came out to watch the film and participate in a lively discussion about the making of the film and the issue of natural gas drilling.

Through ticket sales, merchandising and donations, we were able to raise $600, exactly twice what we spent on making the movie! Part of the remaining $300 will be donated to Shaleshock and the rest will be used for future activist media projects. Here’s to community-supported filmmaking!

The after party at Ragmann’s was tons of fun. We danced, chowed down on food donated by Pizza Aroma and Greenstar Cooperative Market, and announced the raffle winners. Eric, who played a zombie in the movie, won the Frac Attack movie poster, Evie won the “Ithaca is Braains” T-shirt (provided at a discount by T-shirt Express), and Jerry won a zombie make-up session.

Gas drilling opposition inspires art

Here’s an excerpt:

There’s something in the water, and it’s turning Ithacans into confused, drooling, flesh-craving grunters. Luckily, the scores of stumbling undead are actors, and the frightening hydrofracturing fluid contamination that turns them into zombies is simply the premise of a short movie produced by a group of local filmmakers. But the fun flick belies a serious message about the potential dangers of hydraulic horizontal gas drilling and is just one example of how the issue has inspired artists to become activists. Shira Golding said she hopes her movie Frac Attack: Dawn of the Watershed will engage people who may not have otherwise cared. “History shows that whenever there are social justice issues, it takes a combination of strategies to make change. Art may not be the most important of those, but it’s definitely a tool to capture the hearts and minds,” she said.
