Meet the Filmmakers
Frac Attack is a co-production of Shirari Industries and The Dacha Project. Detailed information about who did what can be found on our Credits page.
The Dacha Project
The Dacha Project is a sustainable housing collective. Its members, Danila Apasov, Lea Elleseff, Joe Fisher, Lily Gershon, Marina Gershon, and Sharon Zetter, are building an off-grid homestead and work on numerous projects, from filming videos for About.com and foraging for wild mushrooms, to teaching classes on hula hoop-making and converting cars to run on waste veggie oil.
Shirari Industries
Shirari Industries is an activist-artist couple, Shira Golding and Ari Moore. They offer consulting and creative services to artists, filmmakers, activists, and non-profits, and are striving to be the change they wish to see in the world.
FROM THE FILMMAKERS & CAST
Conor Bolton, Co-Director, Director of Cinematography
“Working on Frac Attack was a blast, but it was also an exercise in building awareness to a key environmental issue. The public needs to be more effectively informed of the kind of impact that non-renewable sources of energy (and the process of harvesting them) have on our fragile environment and ecosystem. If we can change public perception, I think we can change the way we use energy in the future, and that is the highest cause to serve.”
Lily Gershon, Actor
“For me, Frac Attack was another way to express the ridiculousness of natural gas drilling. If poisoning our own water supply isn’t ludicrous enough, then how about zombies?”
Shira Golding, Writer, Co-Director, Editor
“In all movements for social and environmental justice, it takes a combination of strategies to create positive change. The arts, and film specifically, are powerful tools to reach people at an emotional level and it’s our hope that Frac Attack will inspire people who might not have otherwise got involved to start asking questions and take action.”
McKenzie Jones-Rounds, Actor
“I’m continually amazed with the momentum that this movie has. I think that because the issue of stopping natural gas drilling in our area and everywhere is so relevant and fresh, the film has taken on a life much bigger than the cumulative efforts of those who made it. The environment was asking for an outlet to preach its protection, and we simply answered her call. Our heartfelt response is sure to mobilize positive change.”
Kevin Mayer, Actor
“Decades of psychic numbing have created a populace so disconnected from their landbase, so clueless about their true source of life, that they could easily be robbed of their birthright by promises of cash. Frac Attack is first-aid for a culture of PTSD and denial.”
Nutmeg, Co-Producer, Actor
“Fun, film, community, caring, and zombies, too! I wanted an outlet to express my concerns that was not based in fear or anxiety. Ironically, playing a scary zombie in a movie was a way for me to support a respectful compassionate dialogue about gas drilling.”
